Jackie’s diagnosis was a bit of a surprise

Never would we have thought Jackie, who is kind, energetic and creative, would be admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with Stage 4 Small Cell Lung Carcinoma. Almost overnight, her world changed and she, along with her friends and family, are still coming to terms with the diagnosis and what this means for them over the coming months.

Jackie's treatment plan

The news is still difficult to accept, but we are grateful that Jackie is receiving excellent care at University Hospitals. Her treatment includes 14 cycles of chemotherapy, that has already begun. Her treatment journey will require monthly chemotherapy for the next 12 months as we pray the tumors shrink over time.

Even in the face of the seemingly endless treatments, procedures, and medicines, Jackie finds it in her to smile, and she has not complained once. Her friends and family are inspired daily by the lesson in bravery she is teaching us.

Jackie has retired and cannot work while undergoing her treatments. Her partner is working long shifts and is unable to provide 24 hour care, which Jackie desperately needs. It's our goal to provide in-home care to allow respite for her current volunteer caregivers.
