Help Jackie Save Her Cherished Home

Hi, friends and loves. I come today on behalf of my mother, Jackie, whom many of you know and love. I truly hesitated to write and share this, but I will just get right to it…my mom is currently at risk of losing her home to foreclosure. As it stands, her home…our home, is set to be auctioned in just a couple weeks time. Without getting into the ins and outs of it, I will just say it has been an extremely overwhelming few weeks as we’ve tried to figure out how to navigate this.
Every time I think about it, my heart breaks again and again. We have called this place home since 1987, just shortly after my father suddenly passed away.
Since then, our home has served as a refuge not just for us, but for countless others. Most of my childhood memories are filled to the brim with various family members, friends and those seeking to escape to somewhere safe, finding their home with us for periods of time. I think of the gatherings of dozens of people packed in every available corner coming over for some of my mom’s legendary cooking. I think of the laughter and eventual singing that would emulate from those gatherings. I think of my mother’s love for live music and of the musicians who would come over and set up on our patio and play for hours. I think of her grand babies and the excitement of getting to go to grandma’s house. I think of my mother, who has nurtured many and has spent the last several years working long hour days cooking for senior citizens and in shelters for the unhoused. My mother, who tried to carry the weight of her financial troubles on her own, without telling anyone and who now desperately needs our help.
As it stands, she is nearing retirement age and due to the fact that she is in need of a knee surgery, she is already beyond her capacity as far as work goes. The idea of her losing her home of almost 40 years in the midst of all of this is too much to fathom.
She has connected with a local Detroit organization (United Community Housing Coalition) that works to help people keep their homes when these kinds of situations arise and homes are heading to auction.
In short, we are asking now, if you feel so lead to help my mom keep her home, for donations towards this fund.
