My name is Jackie, and reaching out for help like this is something I never imagined I’d do. Over the past year, my life has been turned upside down by a series of unexpected injuries. Last October, I had a freak accident and broke the fibula in my left leg, which took me off work for six weeks. I was just about to return to light duty when, only days before, I suffered another break—this time not only the fibula, but also two bones in my ankle and my shin. This second injury required surgery, but because I had just started a new job and didn’t have insurance, I was forced to rely on Medicaid. Unfortunately, the doctor who treated my first break didn’t accept my new plan, and I spent three agonizing weeks searching for a surgeon while my foot dangled from my leg. It was another week before I could finally get surgery, just before Christmas. I was finally able to return to work at the end of April 2025, but my challenges weren’t over. In August, I had another fall and broke a couple of vertebrae in my lower back. Once again, I’ve been out of work for months, with no income and no help from the state despite countless hours on hold with different agencies. I’ve paid taxes for over 40 years, and it’s hard to believe I’ve ended up here, but I’m out of options. Now, I’m struggling every day just to make ends meet. I know it’s the holiday season and times are tough for everyone, but if you have anything to spare, it would help me get through the next couple of months. Even a little bit makes a difference. If you can’t donate, I’d be so grateful for your prayers and good thoughts. Thank you for reading my story and for any support you can give. I appreciate each and every one of you.
