The morning of Aug 2, Jackie suffered a severe seizure while at home. Joshua was able to call 911 and get Jackie to University Hospital. Shortly after arriving at the emergency room, Jackie had a second, even worse seizure. During both of the episodes, she bit down on her tongue, severely lacerating it, causing her to lose a significant amount of blood.
After several hours being treated in the emergency room, she was intubated because she started having trouble breathing and her blood pressure dropped to dangerous levels. She was immediately transferred to the intensive care unit for more urgent medical treatment. Once in the intensive care unit, she continued to decline and it was discovered that she was in both liver and kidney failure.
She was placed in a medically induced coma due to the seizure activity and to support her breathing while she is in organ failure. As of now, the medical team believes that Jackie’s recent illness due to Covid and subsequently a bladder infection caused her to become septic which resulted in her having toxic shock syndrome, injuring her liver and kidneys. We are hopeful of course that she will make a turn towards a full recovery, but she remains in a critical state and may be in this condition for the foreseeable future.
