My name is Angie Bell, and I'm starting this GoFundMe for my sister, Jackie Mettler Drew.
My sister has had a very, very rough journey since the young age of 13. At 13, she was diagnosed with a very rare eye disease called pars planitis. Only 1 out of 100,000 people get this disease. She started seeing the only doctor in the US that specialized in the disease and was being treated. She continued that for several years.
In 1996, she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Valerie, who was born with a heart condition. Valerie only survived 27 days and passed away during surgery.
A year later, my sister's eye disease got worse, and they had to do surgery. During surgery, the doctors cut her retina, and she lost all sight in that eye. Another devastation she had to cope with.
She had a baby boy in '99, and he was healthy, thankfully. But in 2012, doom struck again. She began getting numb in her face, and after multiple visits to the ER and tons of testing, they diagnosed her with Multiple Sclerosis. This began another health crisis. She began to be treated for that on a regular basis.
In 2011, she married Casey Drew, and it was a beautiful dream wedding. Life was good.
Well, in 2020, she started having issues with her only good eye. Let me tell you, my sister worked from the time she was 14, never went without a job despite everything that was thrown her way, and even went to college and got her associate's degree. She always kept pushing through!
Well, in 2021, her eyesight in her good eye got so bad she was forced to quit working. She then started the applications for disability, which her doctors assured her she would get. It didn't happen. Only a couple of short months after that, we lost our mother to cancer. Come early 2022, she quit driving period because of her vision. In 2024, her eyesight was getting even worse in the only eye she had left. She and her husband decided it was time to try anything, so they began going to Minnesota to Mayo Clinic to see if they could help. The trips were often and expensive, which they couldn't really afford—hotel stays, gas, etc. She has been doing that for a year, still fighting for her disability, and 2 weeks ago, she went to Mayo again, and this was the news she knew was coming. They declared her legally blind. My sister has worked so hard for everything she has and has overcome so much pain and sorrow in her life. Her husband is disabled also with a low income, and she still hasn't gotten disability. They have a home they are at risk of losing and medical bills that are still coming along with changes that are going to have to be made to accommodate my sister's inability to see. We are thinking maybe a seeing-eye dog, but as we all know, those are very expensive.
Please, sharing this or absolutely anything you can give will help. Nobody deserves the help more than my sister!! Please keep her in your prayers and help if you can!!
Thank you so much and God bless!!
