I’m reaching out to you with a heartfelt plea for support for my sister, Jackie. Last Thursday, Jackie faced a critical and unexpected health challenge when she had to undergo emergency tethered cord surgery. This procedure is the latest chapter in her lifelong struggle with spina bifida—a condition she was born with and which has become increasingly difficult to manage over the years.

About Jackie and Her Family: Jackie is a vibrant 37-year-old mother who adores her two boys, Brodie (6) and Liam (3), and her stepdaughter, Ashlynnd (16). In her free time, she loves indulging in arts and crafts, listening to music, and creating beautiful home decor. Despite the challenges she faces, Jackie’s spirit remains strong, and her family means everything to her.

Current Situation: Over the past three years, Jackie’s health has forced her to take extended time off work, leaving her husband as the sole provider for their family. To make ends meet, he has been working out of state in Iowa, making it difficult to find reliable childcare. As a family, we’re doing our best to help care for her children, but balancing our own responsibilities has been challenging.

Jackie is currently in the process of applying for disability benefits, which has been particularly tough given her age. Earlier this year, she underwent brain surgery for a Chiari malformation type 2, and now she’s facing another lengthy recovery period.

What’s Needed: Jackie’s recovery from this recent surgery will be intensive, requiring 4-6 weeks of serious therapy and rehabilitation. With her husband having exhausted his leave and having to return to work, their family is under significant financial strain.
