Hello! This fundraiser is for my partner Jackie, a wonderful person who unfortunately is being unfairly affected by the Oklahoma's recent changes in legislation.

A few months ago, Jackie was supposed to be receiving a necessary hysterectomy for both severe pain and gender affirming reasons. Jackie is intersex with non-functioning ovaries and their family has a medical history of needing them to be removed due to Ehler-Danlos syndrome, meaning this surgery would both greatly improve their quality of life and prevent severe health complications in the future. They were approved for insurance and were set to receive the surgery in early May, but on March 26 the Oklahoma senate approved a bill prohibiting medicaid funding for gender affirming care (Senate Bill 904). Despite the surgery still being necessary, Jackie's insurance decided that it would no longer assist them due to it being partially for gender affirming care.

This was quite a crushing blow as Jackie was looking forward to this surgery for months, only for it to be suddenly cancelled days before it was set to take place. Jackie has been repeatedly going to different doctors trying to find any that would help provide the surgery for only pain related reasons, but their insurance still refuses to provide payment. With the current trajectory of Oklahoma legislation, we do not expect them to reverse this bill for multiple years. Jackie is already experiencing severe pain without this surgery and their life is being disrupted by having to go to the ER occasionally due to it, so waiting this long is not feasible.

Because of this Jackie instead must look into paying for it out of pocket. If Jackie goes to the Surgery Center of Oklahoma, the surgery could cost around $10000 or more. Neither me nor Jackie have the financial backing to afford this and they already have been struggling to raise money to pay for other health problems/day to day life. We ask for your help to let them be able to live without pain. Any amount donated is helpful and will go to paying for Jackie's medical bills. Sharing this fundraiser would help a lot too, we appreciate any form of help.
