Help Jack Maintain Housing

Hi everyone, my name is Alison Barnard and I started this Go Fund Me to support my younger brother in maintaining housing.

My brother Jack (19 years of age) was in the hospital recently for several weeks and was unable to secure housing when he was released from the hospital on December 23rd, 2021. Since then, he has been paying to live in a hostel called WHOLE Family in Sacramento. Jack is on a waiting list at the youth emergency housing shelter through Wind Youth Services, but they do not know when there will be space available and it could take months before there is an available spot (and it would only cover one month of housing). Sacramento County is also no longer offering hotel vouchers for people experiencing houselessness.

The challenging situation is that there have been issues with filing his Social Security Disability Income application, which has resulted in it taking several weeks longer than expected to be approved. He has been denied once (which is standard procedure) and his attorney now has all the information she needs to file an appeal on his behalf, which we believe will be accepted. It is just a waiting game now as we attempt to maintain his housing amidst this difficult time.

I set the goal for this Go Fund Me at $1,616 because that covers the cost of 2 months at WHOLE Family hostel (the cheapest housing option I could find), which I am hoping will be enough time to cover his housing until his SSDI application is approved. Any additional funds that he doesn't need to use towards the hostel will be put towards his future rent and/or deposit at a more long-term housing place. I will be sending all of the funds from this fundraiser directly to Jack.
