My name is Jack Christopherson. I have been battling with stage 3 non small cell lung cancer for the last three years. Complications such as pleurisy and pneumonia have become a constant struggle. While hospitalized for pneumonia last May, the cat scan results showed the last remaining tumor at 7 mm. Through the summer, it seemed like no matter what I did I just couldn't get passed the pneumonia. The reason was because the tumor had been growing again. The cat scan results October 2025 show it had been growing at about 8 mm every 30 days; that's 4.5 cm and growing. The cancer is now stage 4. I am now having to use oxygen full time to make up for reduced lung capacity. I'm on treatment number 2 of a new round of chemo and I'll say, the Dr is hitting it pretty hard. Every day is a new struggle and battle of some kind, as it has been from the start.
Three years ago, when the cancer was first discovered at stage 3, I was working full time as an over the road truck driver on a regional route delivering liquid petroleum gas, " Tanker Truck". Things were going really well. Myself, Dana (my wife of 27 years) and 2 sons were remodeling our home. We had just finished the deck and front of the house and for a great many reasons, our older home needed to be completely gutted. We previously set up a temporary kitchen and bathroom, both of which we are now still using. Our primary heat source has been a wood stove for many years and we are currently out of firewood. I usually down-play everything I'm going through but I'm not going to be able to keep the house warm this way any longer. Aside from being very cold, it's bad to have the oxygen equipment near the fireplace, and the roof is leaking. I stretched things out as far as I could . My savings, cancer plan, temporary disability and retirement accounts have all been exhausted and run out while fighting stage 3. We watched our last car get towed away in June. We have had to borrow a car repeatedly to take care of all our transportation needs since then.
I was expecting to be able to go back to work by September and put all this behind us, but the cancer has other plans. The only thing I can do is ask for help so that my wife and family may have a functional home.
My Dr's recommendations are to prioritize my bucket list and focus on quality of life.
I wish I had started this months ago so that we wouldn't be having to live in the cold right now. I really thought I was going to be able to go back to work. I'm asking for help to get the building materials and help needed to make our house a home again.
I'm asking for help to get a reliable vehicle so my treatment options can be fully appreciated, as well as funds for food and lodging when necessary, and medications, and medical equipment.
These are our needs in list form to ensure clarity and necessity.
