Dear Friends and Community,

We are reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for your support for my brother, Jack Colgan. On the afternoon of July 2nd, Jack experienced a horrific work accident that changed his life. He was thrown from the top of his truck and struck a pipe fence, resulting in severe injuries, including fractures to his C2 and C3 vertebrae, a disk bulge, and a spinal cord contusion. Emergency surgery was performed on July 3rd to decompress his spine and stabilize his neck.

Jack is now receiving care at Harris Methodist in Fort Worth. Unfortunately, he cannot stand or move his arms, and he is enduring significant pain. He faces a very long road of rehab to regain use of his limbs. Those who know Jack will not be surprised that he is wearing out his physical therapists, and asking for work he can do when they are not around. Because of this determination, their feedback is positive on his eventual recovery.

Why He Needs Your Help

While Jack’s accident is covered under Workers’ Compensation, there are huge gaps in coverage. He faces enormous costs related to rehab, transportation, and making his home accessible, among other expenses. Compounding these challenges, Jack’s previous employer had canceled their medical coverage, and his coverage from his new employer had not yet taken effect. This leaves him without medical insurance beyond Workers’ Comp coverage of this accident.

Jack has spent his life as a rural working man, the oil field, farm and ranch, or trucking have been his vocation. These jobs, while valuable to society, haven’t allowed him to accumulate significant assets. Folks who know Jack, know a person who is always laughing, who believes if he can make you smile his day is a success. They would also say that his approach to life has always been a willingness to helping others. The words most often heard from his lips are “do you need a hand with that?”

We are humbly asking for your support for Jack. His financial needs are vast, and we have set a fundraising goal that, while substantial, is still likely to fall short of covering all his expenses. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference and is deeply appreciated.
