The two of us, Jack and Oliver, met in Summer 2022 and immediately developed a strong connection. Our relationship blossomed despite Oliver living in Lansing MI while Jack continued their Doctoral program in Blacksburg VA. Living together over the winter and summer months confirmed our compatibility and strengthened our bond. However, in Spring 2023, Oliver lost his position as an Analyst for the State of Michigan's COVID tracking team, and had considerable difficulty finding another stable position in MI. This past Spring, we decided it would be best for Oliver to join Jack in VA. This has been rewarding for both of us, as we are now able to provide a greater degree of mutual support. However, our current situation presents its own unique challenges.

We are now looking to our extended support network for help (literally) moving on to the next stage. Blacksburg rents have been driven prohibitively high due to the Out of State Undergraduate population at Virginia Tech, combined with the limited number of on-campus beds. Consequently, with Jack's lease ending on June 16th, we are looking to move to the neighboring town of Christiansburg. We have been approved for an affordable townhome, but need your help. Money raised here will go towards two main costs: updating the vaccinations of Oliver's pets (~$200) the security deposit for this apartment ($955, plus Pet Rent). The limited income of a graduate student makes this difficult to meet given the time constraints; and while Oliver has been working many hours delivering for UberEats, he is still working to secure a more stable position in Blacksburg.
