Help Jack & Marla with bills

Marla had open heart surgery on October 2nd and had a 6 day hospital stay. One of the stitches didn’t hold & caused a leaking vein, so they had to take her back into surgery to repair that. Open heart surgery is of course a major operation, and due to her high risk factors- the surgeon had a wound vac placed, to help prevent an infection from developing.  In order to be able to be home, Marla required to have an RN home care nurse come 3 days a week that specializes in wound vacs, to change out the dressing and repack it.

A little over a week after being home, Marla began having difficulty breathing.  Her nurse called the cardiologist, and he suggested that she use her cpap more frequently, due to her primary care Dr being out of office for that week.

On October 16th, Jack had to call 911 to come because Marla was having difficulty being able to breathe- even while wearing her cpap. The EMTs loaded her in the ambulance & immediately had to get the defibrillator. They ended up calling in a LifeLine medivac to Jack & Marla’s house & flew her directly back to the cardio Drs in Indy.

Marla had to be intubated & admitted into the ICU. They determined she had fluidbuilt up around/in her lungs, and when they took the fluid off- they removed 2 Liters! After a few days, they were able to remove the breathing tube, and on 10/21, they took out her Central line, and started her back on oral medications instead of IV fluids/medication.

During all of this, Jack has been unable to work much-if at all. He has been having to drive to Indianapolis and back daily to see her. The hospital is approximately a 2 hour drive from their house. Due to COVID restrictions, they will only allow 1 visitor a day, and if you leave the hospital at all- that counts as the 1 visitor and you can not re-enter.

All of this has taken a toll on them, both emotionally & financially. They do not typically ask for help, and if you know them well, you know they are quick to help others when they need it. Please consider donating, even if all you can afford is $5, every little bit helps! Thank you for anything that you are able to help with.
