After more than a year of pain, weakness, crazy symptoms and unanswered questions, Jaci has been diagnosed with Lyme disease and Babesiosis — two serious tick-borne infections that can attack the nervous system, muscles and organs.

These illnesses have taken so much from Jaci in such a short time. Those who know and love her have seen the toll it’s taken on her mentally, physically and emotionally. She’s gone from being an active, bubbly 15-year-old who loved school and sports to struggling daily with fatigue, pain, and mobility issues. Despite everything, she continues to face each day with incredible strength and a beautiful smile.

Now that we finally have answers, Jaci has started an intensive treatment plan that gives us real hope for recovery. She will undergo months of weekly blood ozone treatments (Major Auto-Hemotherapy) in Lufkin, along with long-term antibiotics and anti-parasitic medication to fight the infections. Unfortunately, these treatments are not covered by insurance, and each weekly visit costs over $400, not including travel expenses.

Her prescriptions will be partially covered by insurance, but because of the length of treatment — six months for one and a year or more for the other— the costs will still add up quickly for her family.

Because Jaci has Celiac Disease, the chronic inflammation and immune dysregulation from having both conditions can significantly worsen her symptoms. The two conditions can overlap in complex ways that make diagnosis and treatment even longer and more difficult.
