Jace Bowman is our sweet, gentle, and kind-hearted 10-year-old son. He was born with Microtia Atresia, which means his right ear is not fully developed and he is deaf in that ear. Over the years, we have tried everything to help him, including seeking insurance coverage for a life-changing surgery. Unfortunately, our insurance will not pay for the procedure, which involves a complex, plastic surgery to build an ear from scratch. To make things even more challenging, Dr. Tahiri is one of the few surgeons in the world who performs this surgery, and he is located in California, far from our home in Michigan.
As Jace grows older, his condition has become more than just a physical challenge. It has started to affect his confidence, his friendships, and how he sees himself. He has shared with us how much he just wants to feel “normal” and not stand out in a way that hurts. As parents, it is heartbreaking to hear your child express these feelings. We want nothing more than to give Jace the chance to walk into school with confidence, to make friends easily, and to simply be a kid without fear or self-doubt.
The funds raised through this campaign will go directly toward the cost of Jace’s surgery. We are doing everything we can, but we cannot do this alone. If you feel moved to support Jace—whether through a donation or by sharing his story—it would mean the world to our family. Every bit helps, and every act of kindness brings us one step closer to giving Jace this opportunity. Thank you for taking the time to read about Jace and for being part of his journey.
