Help Izzy's Hip Surgery for a Pain-Free Life
Donation protected
My girlfriend, Angelica, and I have 2 rescue dogs that we have adopted over the last couple of years. We recently found that our most recent rescue, Izzy, a one-year-old, loving mutt, was born without hip sockets and will require surgery to correct the issue or face a life of pain. The surgery required is called FHO hip surgery wherein the surgeon rounds out the hip joint in order to form scar tissue so that the hip locks into place, helping ease any pain and allowing the dog to live a long, healthy life. We have decided to have the surgery done at Dickman Road Veterinary Clinic in Battle Creek, Michigan, who have several skilled surgeons who have performed this surgery a large number of times.
The cost of the surgery alone, along with follow-up visits, etc., is going to be around $4000. This is a conservative estimate as we will both likely have to take some time off outside of our normal paid time to care for Izzy and allow her to heal. We are looking into financing at the moment, but are limited due to a couple of factors: we just bought a house under 2 years ago, and I incurred a large amount of medical debt when I had a massive heart attack also less than 2 years ago. This has lessened our ability to obtain large amounts of credit at this time. We have already spent nearly $2,000 on Izzy's care up until this point, and it has drained our savings. We know everyone is having a hard time right now, and this is not meant to dismiss that in any way. Our hope is that the kindness of friends and strangers alike, for whatever anyone is willing to help with (any dollar amount, a share, etc.) will help us reach our goal and be able to get Izzy through this and onto a long, healthy life in a loving home.
We have checked with a few different offices and surgeons, and our choice was not made lightly. We were also fortunate that the care team we have chosen was also the most modestly priced. The best part about this surgery is the recovery time isn't bad, and it is also in the higher 90s as far as success rate. She will have to spend some time separated from her sister, and wear a cone, but given her age, the hope is neither will be for very long.
As for Izzy, she is one of the most loving animals either of us have ever been around. She is a survivor. In fact, she is the only pup from her litter that survived Parvo. She genuinely loves people and shows kindness toward not only humans, but also other animals. Being a puppy, she is full of energy and can be hyper and stubborn, but she's one of the most lovable little pups you can imagine. We greatly appreciate any support or sharing you can do at this time. Even if you can't help, we appreciate any positive thoughts toward our little baby. Thank you for reading.
