Hi all, my name is Alina & i have been Izzy’s (foster) mom since the beginning of December. On one 25 degree night, i went outside to take the trash out, and she was standing a few feet in front of my apartment door. She instantly ran over to me, nudging her head against my leg, wanting love & affection. She tried following me inside of my apartment, which at that point i couldn’t resist & leave her out to freeze and/or starve.
I quickly located her previous owners through a Lost & Found Facebook group page, and found out about Izzy’s past. She’s about 10 years old, and the environment she grew up in most of her life, was quickly changed when the family added other animals. She kept escaping from the home because she was getting bullied by the other male cats & having to live a completely separate life from the other animals & humans , to the point where she jumped out of the 2 story window to escape the neglect.
Since then, I felt Izzy found me and my boyfriend for a reason; to save her from the stressful life she had, knowing we would give her a proper home, care, love, and life she deserves. She is nothing short of attached to me; follows me around everywhere i go, sleeps right at the top of my pillow & still nudges her head onto me daily. She has been nothing short of being the most gentle, loving, cuddly cat I’ve ever come across.
Recently, Izzy became pretty sick. She has had a loss of appetite, trouble breathing, runny nose & eyes, sneezing and has just been lethargic and not acting like her usual lovable self. As soon as i noticed that evening, as it was past 9pm, we rushed her to an urgentvet. They said it was probably a virus, and gave her fluids & injections as a temporary solution. I didn’t see much progress the following day, so we took her back. (Because better safe than sorry). The urgentvet wanted to do bloodwork diagnostic testing & x rays for a veryy hefty price. With that knowledge, we ended up taking her to her primary vet clinic to get their opinion on where to go from here.
Izzy’s vet visit last night consisted of bloodwork, injections, antibiotics, fluids, etc. The vet explained to us it could be some sort of infection, a virus, or something more. Her bloodwork came back pretty abnormal, unfortunately. Her levels are inconsistent which could be due to multiple different things, she just doesn’t know without more testing.
She informed me that whatever is going on inside of her, has probably been ongoing for a while before she started showing signs, as was left untreated by her previous owners. She was probably trying to mask the pain when showing up at my house..
The antibiotic is a temporary solution that will hopefully get her feeling better for now. However, she is still struggling with eating and drinking water. With the vets recommendation, with Izzy’s age & bloodwork results, she suggested she be hospitalized in order to receive the proper treatment & nutrients she needs to get better.
My boyfriend and i have put together this fundraiser for her to help raise money to get her the treatment she needs. Having 3 other cats in our house and only having Izzy for a little over a month and a half, right before Christmas, the new year, holidays, as well as trying to find her a forever home, we were unfortunately unable to add her to pet insurance.
She still has sooo much life to live, and i still have so much love to give and show her before it’s her time. We were told we need to come back for another vet visit Monday, if she is not showing signs of improvement. We’re kindly asking for any help, donation, share, or whatever can be done so we can save and help this sweet, helpless fur-baby.
