Help Us Save Izzy
My sister’s dog, Izzy, is in really bad condition. She’s nine years old and has arthritis, but otherwise, she’s been a healthy and happy dog.
One morning, Izzy suddenly had trouble walking—she couldn’t put any weight on her paw. Worried, we rushed her to the emergency vet, where they did blood work and X-rays. They found her joint was swollen and treated her aggressively for what they believed was an arthritis flare-up.
But just a few days later, things got much worse. The swelling grew even bigger, and now her leg is secreting fluid and blood. We took her back to the emergency clinic, only to receive devastating news: Izzy has an aggressive bacterial infection that could lead to sepsis. If it spreads, she could lose her leg—or worse.
Now, Izzy is seeing a specialist in hopes of saving her leg. My sister, Choleen, and her partner, Hunter, have done everything they can—taking her to multiple emergency visits and spending over $3,000, only to find out it was far more serious than just arthritis.
Izzy means the world to my sister. After her divorce, Izzy was the only constant in her life. She lost another dog in the separation, and Izzy is all she has left. Hunter has been a rock for both of them, doing everything he can to support them through this.
We need help to continue Izzy’s treatment. Any contribution, big or small, would mean the world to my sister and Izzy. Please help us save her leg and give her a chance to keep living the life she deserves.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
***Update
Izzy is home! We have to take her back on March 5 and again on Friday, March 6, at 7 AM for bandage changes and wound cleaning. Hopefully, by Monday, her wounds will be healed.
The vets wanted her to come home to bring some normalcy back into her life. She’s eating, drinking, peeing, and pooping just fine and is in good spirits. She’s also walking on her leg, which is a huge relief.
She’s coming home with a lot of medications, including two for a heart arrhythmia they discovered. It’s not the most common type, but the second most common they see in pets. Thankfully, they caught it early because, if left untreated, it could potentially lead to cardiac arrest. Once her wounds heal in about two weeks, they’ll do a 24-hour heart monitoring to get clearer results since all the medications she’s currently on make it difficult to get an accurate reading.
After everything she’s been through, we’re beyond grateful that they were able to save her leg. Thank you all for your support and contributions—we truly appreciate it. The vet hospital bills have been significant, especially with the overnight stays, but we’re just so happy Izzy is on the road to recovery.
