Writing this is incredibly difficult, but it feels like the right time to share my story.

I’ve lived with health challenges since I was 12, and by the age of 18 I became disabled. Like many people, I spent years believing that if I just kept pushing, things would eventually improve. Instead, I’ve had to learn to adapt and find new ways to live alongside multiple chronic conditions.

One of the biggest challenges I face is chronic back pain, which affects every part of my daily life. Although my illnesses are mostly invisible, they are there every single day. The people closest to me see the reality behind the smile- the pain, the exhaustion, and the determination it takes to keep going.

For a long time, I hesitated to use mobility aids because I struggled with what they represented. Over time, with encouragement from medical professionals and the disabled community, I’ve come to realise they’re not about giving up—they’re about gaining independence, confidence and the freedom to do more of the things that matter.

A rollator would make a huge difference to my quality of life. It would help me manage my pain, conserve my energy and allow me to be more independent. Unfortunately, after recently losing the financial support I relied on- a decision I am currently appealing- buying one simply isn’t possible for me right now.

Asking for help doesn’t come naturally, but today I’m choosing hope over pride. If you’re able to donate, no matter how small the amount, it would bring me one step closer to having the support I need. If donating isn’t possible, sharing my fundraiser would mean just as much.

Disability can happen to anyone at any stage of life. Mobility aids don’t take away independence—they give it back.
