Hi everyone, my name is Taniyah Bethea and I’m a mom of two doing my very best to keep my family stable through an incredibly difficult time. I’ve always prided myself on handling life’s challenges on my own, but the situation we’re facing is bigger than anything I can manage alone. With my inability to work, rising bills, and overwhelming medical needs, I’ve reached a point where I have to ask for help — not for myself, but for my children.
Our 1-year-old son, Iyaad, was diagnosed with a rare and complex form of Congenital Heart Disease called TAPVR (Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Return). Since birth, he has undergone three major open-heart surgeries, with his first taking place when he was just 6 days old. He now requires ongoing heart catheterizations every three months due to early-onset heart failure and lung disease stemming from previous surgeries.
Recently, all of Iyaad’s upcoming medical appointments — including bloodwork, echocardiogram, EKG, and his necessary heart catheterization — were canceled after his health insurance was unexpectedly terminated. Although I have been fighting daily to get his coverage reinstated, the delays, processing issues, and the recent government shutdown have made it nearly impossible to secure timely care.
In the meantime, his medications — including the transplant immune suppressant Sirolimus — are extremely expensive without insurance. These costs, combined with travel between Florida and New York for his specialized care, lodging, parking for weeks at a time, meals, and the needs of our other child, have placed a tremendous emotional and financial strain on us.
To cover Iyaad’s upcoming surgery, his recurring catheterizations, the out-of-pocket medication costs, and the essential expenses that allow us to stay by his side during hospital stays, we are setting a fundraising goal of $50,000. This amount will help ensure he continues receiving the lifesaving care he needs, especially while his insurance remains unresolved.
We are humbly asking for your support to help lighten these hardships so we can focus on Iyaad’s health and our family’s wellbeing. Any donation — no matter the amount — truly makes a difference. Your kindness, prayers, and support mean more to us than we can ever express.
With much love and gratitude,
The Bethea-Adrien Family
