My name is Ivy Egger. I am a 42 year old mom despite that I have a rare genetic liver disease that effects my life every single day. It's called Glycogen Storage Disease, type 1A. This means that I have to check my blood sugars multiple times a day, often using a continuous glucose monitor and a cornstarch solution to keep my blood sugars from getting to a dangerously low level. I also need to watch my diet very closely because my body cannot process them. Overnight, I need to either wake up in the middle of the night to take more cornstarch or take a special long acting cornstarch called glycosade before bed. I have been taking the long acting cornstarch so that I can get a good night's sleep and because I am a very heavy sleeper. Unfortunately, the glycosade is very expensive but the insurance was covering it up until we switched insurance coverage. Unbeknownst to us until much later, the old insurance company was billed by the medical supplier causing a billing issue that neither insurance is willing to cover. We tried reasoning with both insurance companies over countless phone calls, the medical supplier, and even called the state insurance commission. All to no avail. We are now on the hook to pay for something that the insurance should have covered. This is an expense that we cannot afford in addition to our regular household expenses which include my husband's medical supplies. He has been a type 1 diabetic since early childhood. Any help is greatly appreciated.
