Help the Ivanchov family navigate Yura's road to recovery.

On December 17th, Yura Ivanchov, devoted husband and father of four girls ages 10-18, felt
aches and pains from flu-like symptoms. 36 hours later, he didn’t know where or who he was.
MSSA “staph” had infected his blood and targeted a heart valve that had been replaced 10
years prior. As his heart pumped, it sent bacteria and blood clots from the infected valve
straight to his brain, causing many minor-strokes and two minor brain bleeds. Over the course
of the next two weeks, as Christmas and New Year’s passed with Yura still in the hospital, his
wife, Jessie, and their four girls, anxiously wondered if Yura would make it and what recovery
could possibly look like.
Today he is physically stable: the infection is subsiding and his cognition and strength are
gradually increasing. After 30 days in the hospital and a rehab facility, Yura has come home this week. Even as he continues home health and therapy care, the girls and their dad will finally be able to celebrate Christmas!
However, the road to Yura’s final recovery is daunting. Parts of the left-temporal lobe of his brain were damaged, affecting his speech and cognition. The doctors say it will likely be a full year of therapy and healing before they have a clear picture of long-term impact. Further complicating matters, the damage to his heart, valve, and aorta are also going to require open-heart surgery, scheduled for early/mid-February.
We’ve created this GoFundMe to ask for your help and support:
1. Jessie & Yura and their girls crave your prayers. We continue to pray for God’s
intervention and healing and for Yura’s miraculous return to full health and
strength—mentally and physically. And we pray for health and strength for Jessie and
the girls as they walk this road with him.
2. They need financial support during this critical time to help pay hospital, rehab, and
therapy bills not covered by insurance and to sustain their family while Jessie and Yura
are both away from work.
The main breadwinner of the family, Yura held a steady job in the telecommunications industry, but did not have short-term disability insurance. Jessie has had to take leave from her hourly work @ Hobby Lobby to manage Yura’s medical care and care for their children, leaving the family with zero income and growing medical debt.
Your donation will go directly to their family to help them manage their monthly expenses and
begin to pay off their medical charges. Any contribution, of any size, that you can make is
deeply appreciated. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
While this tragedy has and will completely reshape life for the Ivanchov's, they continue to fight discouragement and ride out the emotional rollercoaster they’ve been on over the last month.
The girls are back at school after Christmas break, participating in theater, hockey, dance, and
life in as normal a fashion as Jessie can make it. Jessie is holding it all together as well as she
can, juggling trips to the ER, neuro recovery floor, in-patient rehab, out-patient rehab, and the
cardiac unit at UNM Hospital in Albuquerque.
They are beyond grateful for the financial support, prayers, and positive thoughts you can share, and we will continue to update this page on Yura’s progress, ongoing needs, prayer requests, and, by God’s power, healing, and grace, recovery!
