I learned that Ivana passed away today. This GoFundMe will stay active as long as it can for her two kids - Ognjen, 2, and Nadja, 14.

I’m not sure how or where to begin this, but I am devastated by this news. My cousin in Serbia, Ivana, is in the terminal stage of cancer. She has shown incredible strength through her battle with breast cancer over the past year and a bit, but this new development has shocked everyone. The emotional and financial toll of treatment is overwhelming, especially since she has two kids - age 14 and 2. They’re far too young to feel this pain, and I hate how life can be so cruel.

She and her husband, Zoran, were married in 2019. Now, only 6 years later, they’re facing unimaginable challenges that many couples should not have to face so early - especially after welcoming their son in 2023.

This fundraiser is to help ease the burden of medical bills, daily living expenses, and other needs that arise, so that they can have peace of mind and focus on what truly matters. All donations will be sent to the account her friend has created in Serbia (I figured it would be easier to create a GoFundMe here and then send the funds internationally from one account). For transparency purposes, every donation will be tracked, along with the int’l transfer confirmation. This confirmation can also be sent to you if you so choose.

She and I were very close growing up. Circumstances led to our lives having taken different paths, but she has always held a place in my heart. A really sweet connection I treasure is that she shares a birthday with my son, Adrian. It’s an interesting synchronicity and a reminder of the threads of family that tie us together, no matter the circumstances.
