We are setting up this fundraiser on behalf of an amazing 13-year-old, Isaac.

Isaac has faced more challenges in his 13 years than most of us could ever imagine. He was born with a rare and serious heart condition called Incomplete Shone’s Complex, as well as bilateral talipes (clubbed feet).

At just 12 weeks into the pregnancy, his mum found out that Isaac had clubbed feet. At that point, they knew life could be more difficult for him, but they had no idea just how much he would have to overcome.

At 30 weeks, during a routine scan, doctors noticed something concerning with Isaac’s heart. His mum was referred to the Fetal Medicine Centre at the Women's Hospital for further tests, where the family were given devastating news. They were told that Isaac had a rare and serious heart condition and were presented with three options: termination, compassionate care, or surgery after birth if he was stable enough.

They chose to fight for Isaac.

His mum was induced at 36 weeks and had just 10 precious minutes with him before he was transported to Alder Hey Children's Hospital. Because she was still recovering in hospital herself, she wasn't able to see her newborn son again for more than 24 hours.

At just five days old, Isaac underwent his first major heart operation.

His childhood has been filled with hospital admissions, surgeries and challenges. Between his first and second heart surgeries, he became extremely ill with flu and ended up in intensive care.

At six months old, he underwent another heart operation, followed by surgery on his feet when he was around one year old to try to correct his club feet.

As Isaac grew older, it became increasingly difficult for him to keep up with other children. His energy levels and ability to walk were affected, and following another heart operation, his sinus node was damaged and he needed a pacemaker.

What should have been a straightforward pacemaker operation became anything but. Isaac nearly bled out and ultimately required two surgeries.

When Isaac was six, he developed fluid between his lungs and ribcage while in hospital and needed a drain near his armpit. He spent more than two months largely confined to a hospital bed, surrounded by drains and wires.

Understandably, this took a huge emotional toll on him. Isaac became very depressed, and his family did everything they could to keep him entertained and make things as normal as possible while he was in hospital and away from home and his brother, Nathan.

Even after returning home, Isaac continued to struggle with walking. One of his feet began turning back in, meaning he needed casts and further surgery. In total, he has undergone three operations on his feet, and he now has a metal plate in one foot to help keep it straight.

Now, at 13 years old, Isaac still struggles to walk for long periods. He often needs to stop and rest, but sometimes even resting isn't enough. A wheelchair is therefore something he relies on to help him get around.

Recently, Isaac's dad promised him that he would get him an electric wheelchair.

For Isaac, this wouldn't simply be a wheelchair. It would mean independence, freedom and the ability to get out and about without constantly worrying about how far he will have to walk.

Sadly, Isaac's dad suddenly passed away recently, leaving Isaac and his family absolutely devastated.

His dad had made this promise to his son, and his family would love nothing more than to be able to fulfil it for him.

They were advised by the hospital that the waiting list for a wheelchair could be very long, so the family have decided to try to raise the money themselves to purchase an electric wheelchair for Isaac.

We're hoping that, with the kindness and generosity of friends, family and strangers, we can help make this happen.

This fundraiser isn't just about buying Isaac a wheelchair.

It's about giving a brave 13-year-old boy some of the independence that his health has taken away from him.

It's about helping him get out with his family, spend time with his brother, enjoy days out, make memories and experience life without being limited by how far he can walk.

And most importantly, it's about helping to keep his dad's promise to his son. ❤️
