Help Issa & Maryam After Serious Auto Accident

On their way home from a family funeral, Issa Kabeer and his mother, Maryam Kabeer, were in a serious car accident in Wilson County, North Carolina. After days of driving across the country, the brakes failed, the car flipped in the air and struck a tree.

Both Issa and Maryam were rushed to Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh with serious injuries. Issa suffered a tibial plateau fracture, a broken shoulder blade, and a deep head wound requiring stitches. Mariam sustained multiple fractures, including a broken ankle, shattered bones in her hand, and injuries requiring skin grafts and reconstructive surgery. She remains hospitalized and will require long-term care.

Issa has been released but is still recovering, and we are making arrangements to bring them home to Philadelphia. The medical bills are mounting — two weeks in the hospital, multiple surgeries, extended care — and neither of them has the resources to face this alone.

Issa and Maryam are the kind of people who give endlessly and ask for nothing. Their lives have been dedicated to helping others — through teaching, writing, mentoring, acting, community work, and quiet acts of service. Whether guiding students, offering counsel, or opening their doors to those in need, they embody compassion and grace.
