My father, Israel Ohayon, is a liver transplant recipient who has faced extraordinary medical challenges. In December 2009, he underwent a life-saving liver transplant, but before the procedure, doctors discovered severe blockages in his heart. He needed a triple bypass, but the risks were immense—if he had the bypass first, his liver would fail, and if he had the transplant first, his heart might not survive. In a groundbreaking operation, surgeons performed both procedures back-to-back, opening his chest and abdomen in a single surgery. By the grace of God, Israel survived, and his story became known in the medical community for its uniqueness and success.
Sixteen years later, my father is still with us, but the cost of his ongoing care has become overwhelming. He takes over 15 different medications, including Rapamune, an immunosuppressant that costs thousands of dollars each month. Even with Medicare, my parents must pay a significant portion out of pocket. Their savings have been depleted, and now they rely solely on social security. The financial strain is so great that they can no longer afford simple pleasures like going to the movies, and the constant stress has begun to affect my father's health. I have seen him clutch his chest in pain from the anxiety of not knowing how they will afford his next round of medication.
My parents have spent their lives working tirelessly to provide for our family, always putting others first. Now, in their seventies, they deserve relief and peace of mind. I am raising funds to help cover the cost of my father's immunosuppressants and other essential medications, so he can continue to enjoy the life he fought so hard to keep. Any support will help ease their burden and bring hope to a family that has already overcome so much.
