Dear Friends, Family, and Compassionate Supporters,
With a heavy heart, I share that my beloved son, Israel Gardner —
affectionately known as “Jo” — has been diagnosed with Stage 4
nasopharyngeal carcinoma. This rare and aggressive cancer affects
fewer than 1 in 100,000 people and is typically seen in adults. Jo is
only 16 years old.
This news has shaken our world. In the face of unimaginable
uncertainty, we are doing everything we can to give Jo the best
possible chance at recovery. He is brave, bright, and full of love — a
vibrant teen who deserves a future filled with good health, laughter,
and opportunity.
Jo's treatment plan involves highly specialized care at UCLA Mattel
Children’s Hospital and Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. While
we are grateful for access to excellent care and a supportive care
team, the emotional and financial toll is overwhelming.
We are reaching out with humility and hope, asking for your support as
we navigate this difficult journey. Your donation will help cover:
- Travel and temporary housing in San Diego
- Out-of-pocket medical expenses not covered by insurance
- Daily living costs while we are away from home
- Medications, nutritional support, and specialized therapies
- Supportive care to keep Jo strong during treatment
Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to easing the
burden on our family and allowing us to focus on what matters most:
helping Jo heal.
If you are unable to give, please consider sharing this campaign with
your network. Your kindness, prayers, and love mean the world to us.
With deepest gratitude,
Team Jo — Fighting Cancer Together
