Help Isla Start Her Fertility Journey
Earlier in 2021, I took the first step towards understanding my fertility. As a single woman in her 30s, this was already daunting but then results weren't great. You ideally want your AMH (Anti Mullerian Hormone) levels to be between 6.8 and 47.8 - this is an indicator of the amount of eggs in the ovaries. My first results came back at 7, second test returned a result of 5. My antral follicle count of 2 (done via ultrasound) is significantly under the median level: 0 to 7 follicle count is a very low fertility potential, 8-15 is low and above 15 is normal.
So far I've kept all of this private because it was hard to admit I wanted to pursue fertility treatment but the longer I leave it, the harder it will be for me to realise my dream of having a child. I'm doing something very difficult here and letting people know that I would love to start the egg retrieval process this year to work towards that dream.
I'm not ignorant to the fact we're in a pandemic and some people are living hand to mouth, but if you are in a position to go without a takeaway coffee or two this week, you'd be helping someone who has thought long and hard about motherhood and wants so desperately for it to be an option for her.
I have the opportunity to undergo the treatment and subsequent medical procedure in September and the total cost for one cycle is approximately $7000. Unfortunately my low fertility doesn't qualify me for any government or Medicare rebates so I am covering the cost myself, and I've also been advised by my specialist that I will have to do more than one cycle to be successful but just being able to start one cycle is the goal at the moment. I would never ask for the total amount (and even setting this page up for a portion of it has made me feel uncomfortably vulnerable) but I am so grateful you've read this far and would like to help me just a little.
Thank you for making it to the end of my explanation for this page, and thank you so so much in advance for anything at all that you can contribute.
