Hi, my name is Isla ❤️
I was born 10 years ago with a undiagnosed genetic condition. My condition means I am a full time wheelchair user, non verbal and totally dependent on my mum and dad, who in my opinion do a fantastic job!
When I was 7 years old my mum noticed my hip was clicking when I moved. Initially, I was denied an x-ray but mum didnt give up and fought to get me an x-ray. My X-ray came back abnormal so I was sent to see an orthopedic and trauma consultant at Alder hey.
There, my lovely consultant told me that the balls of both my femurs were over 50% out of my pelvis and that I would need surgery sooner rather than later.
My mum and dad were absolutely heart broken for me but they knew I had to have the surgery to prevent any pain in the future.
I went through a 9 hour double hip reconstruction surgery to fix my hips. I had metal work put in place to help my bones grow straight. I took the surgery like a champ! I needed a blood transfusion as I was a tad pale from losing alot of blood, So that slowed my recovery slightly. I still managed to get back to school 6 weeks later after plenty of rest and hydrotherapy sessions.
Ive recently had my metal work removed. My consultant is over the moon with my results, so much so I dont need to see him for another year! My mum asked how much all of my treatment would typically cost...£20'000-£30'000. Mum nearly fell off her chair!
So that's why Im here telling you my story. Id like to say thank to Alder hey with a little bit of help from you guys. Myself and my family will start our fundraising journey taking part in Oli's Safari Walk on Sunday 10th May at Knowsley safari park.
Thank you for reading my story...love Isla
