Isla Funk's Facial Feminization Surgery Fund!

A couple of years ago, I realized I was transgender, and I began 

to transition. It's been a wild and unpredictable ride of voice training, laser hair removal, and conquering my fear of needles, but I wouldn't change a thing. I'm proud of my progress to get this far, but I still have a long way to go.

And that's where you come in! As you might know, transgender health care is expensive, to the point that it is prohibitive for many people, myself included. While bottom and top surgery in Canada are covered by public health care, Facial Feminization Surgery (or FFS) has been deemed an elective surgery by my government and is not covered by public insurance. Bottom surgery and top surgery are very important to me, but FFS is the most crucial procedure that I need done to alleviate my dysphoria. I began balding at the tender age of 18, and by the time I realized I was trans, I was in my late 20s, and testosterone had wreaked havoc on my body and my features.

I've had a few consultations and have narrowed my choices down to two surgeons. Both will give me the results I desire. One is much more expensive than the other, but their results are some of the best in the world. For the time being, I've set my goal to fundraise towards the cheaper of the two. If this fundraiser is wildly successful, I'll work towards the more expensive option!

 

Here are the procedures that I have discussed with my surgeon:

 

-Hair transplants (performed one week after FFS)

-Forehead contouring (Type 3)

-Hairline Correction, bringing my hairline down

-A brow lift, to match the new forehead shape

-Orbital Rims Reshaping

-Blepharoplasty, to remove sagging skin from the orbital rim reshaping

-Feminizing Rhinoplasty

-Upper lip lift

-Chin feminization

-Jaw feminization

-Facial Lipofilling

The cost of these procedures, combined with the standard medical fees of one night of hospitalization and general anesthesia, pre-surgical tests and x-rays, standard post-op medication, transportation to my appointments, and a bilingual assistant, would come out to around 23000 CAD. However, this doesn't include the cost of an international flight, electrolysis for the affected areas, booking two weeks of room and board, and lost wages from missing work during my recovery.

I know that getting these FFS procedures done would alleviate so much of the dysphoria I feel in my daily life. I dream of looking in the mirror and seeing myself smiling back. This surgery is genuinely my light at the end of the tunnel, and it would mean the world to me if you would donate even a little bit to it! Every donation brings me one step closer to finally feeling peace within myself for the first time in my life.
