Help Isla Experience the Joy of a Family Vacation
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Jill!
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit this GoFundMe that I’ve put together for my niece Isla.
Isla is one special girl. She was born in China. My sister Molly, her husband Justin, and son Zeke (also adopted from China!) were so blessed to adopt Isla. Isla was 15 months old when they became a forever family.
Isla has been diagnosed with Jarcho Levin Syndrome - Spondylothoracic Dysostosis, Thoracic Insufficiency Syndrome, and congential scoliosis . These are somewhat umbrella terms. Each child that has Thoracic Insufficiency Syndrome is a very unique case. Her specific condition is very severe and complex.
Isla was born with missing, fused, and deformed spinal vertebrae and ribs. She has severe hyper lordosis. Her condition affects her cervical through thoracic spinal vertebrae and her ribs. Since birth, her lungs are half the size they should be. Without medical intervention, her ribcage would not grow any bigger. Thus, her lungs would not be able to sustain life for her.
Surgeries are crucial for her growth, but because of her severe and complex case, they are becoming more difficult as she grows. Isla has had 14 major surgeries so far to allow growth for her lungs. The majority of her surgeries have been with an amazing team of doctors at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Isla is now 8 years old. She is beautiful, smart, and so brave!
This fundraiser has been created to help bring joy and fun for Isla. She has been through so much trauma and hard circumstances in her life. Isla and her family haven’t been able to take any type of family vacation for some respite. The medical bills, cost of medical travel, and various therapies add up quickly.
Isla loves princesses, all things fancy, music, the ocean... She is a bright light, and we'd love to try to make a wish come true for Isla to be able to experience the joy and fun of a vacation in some way.
Thank you for reading! If you’d like to learn more details about Isla’s condition and the last 7 years of her medical care, please visit my sister’s blog:
