Help Isabel Recover from Invasive Surgery

Hi, my name is Lina,

I'm fundraising for my sister Isabel, she is scheduled to have surgery to remove a foreign substance called Biopolimeros that she injected into her buttocks 12 years ago in Colombia for cosmetic purposes. Many of you may not be familiar with this procedure since it's not offered here in the US and this was done in Colombia. A lot of people believed the product to be unharmful and trusted the medical ethics of their surgeons. However, she is struggling with the side effects of this substance daily.

My sister started having multiple health issues last year, and ever since her health has begun to decline. She has had multiple hospital visits, and doctor's appointments keeping her off work and none of the doctors knew the actual cause of her illnesses until recently. She has always been a very healthy person, but for the last few months she has been feeling weaker, and fatigued with severe joint pains, terrible headaches, back pain, multiple infections in different parts of her body, and became very anemic. The substance has immigrated to different areas of her buttocks and mostly is now located on her lower back. Her immune system is attacking her own body. Having this surgery to remove the Biopolimeros is the only option she has to have quality of life and she will start to feel better day by day and prevent other medical problems from arising.

Her surgery is scheduled for July 9th in Colombia and needs to be there by July 5th to do all of her preoperative testing. This is an invasive surgery that requires a least 30 days of recovery in Colombia and thereafter a longer recovery when she comes back to the US. As a mother myself, I can't imagine how difficult it will be for my sister to have to go through this. She is a single mother, and she supports her family, she will be on family medical leave for all this time without income and that's the reason I'm asking for everyone's support. This procedure to remove this product is not covered by insurance companies either here or in Colombia.
