Help Isabel Heal After Tragic Accident

Hello, my name is Arely Franco. I am currently a nursing student at Dalton State College and work at Hamilton Medical Center as a nurse extern.

On Wednesday, April 23rd, my aunt, Isabel, was involved in a devastating car accident while driving with her three children — Johanna (17), Mauricio (14), and Andrew (2). By the grace of God, her children escaped with only minor injuries. Unfortunately, my aunt was not as fortunate.

After receiving a frantic call from her husband, my family rushed to the scene. Nothing could have prepared us for what we found. Isabel was critically injured and bleeding heavily — and in that moment, there was nothing we could do but pray and wait for help. The images of that day are ones we will never forget.

Isabel was first taken to Hamilton Medical Center, where doctors told us that "only a miracle can save her." She was later transferred to Erlanger for specialized care. Thanks to countless prayers and the incredible work of her medical team, Isabel is now stable, but her journey is far from over. She has suffered a brain bleed and more than a dozen fractures across her skull and face. She has already undergone surgery to clean the wounds on her brain and begin reconstructing her broken bones, but she still faces additional surgeries and a long, difficult recovery.

Isabel is a vibrant, warm-hearted woman — the kind of person whose laughter fills a room. She has always been a second mother to me, and her bond with my mother is unbreakable. The day of the accident, they had planned to spend the afternoon together — but life changed in an instant.

Today, Isabel remains in intensive care. Her husband is doing everything he can to support her while also caring for their children. Our family has been overwhelmed by the love and support we've received from friends, family, and our community during this unimaginable time.

El miércoles 23 de abril, mi tía Isabel sufrió un grave accidente de carro mientras iba con sus tres hijos — Johanna (17), Mauricio (14) y Andrés (2). Gracias a Dios, sus hijos salieron con heridas leves. Lamentablemente, mi tía no tuvo la misma suerte.

Después de recibir una llamada desesperada de su esposo, mi familia y yo corrimos hacia el lugar del accidente. Nada nos pudo haber preparado para lo que vimos. Isabel estaba gravemente herida y sangrando intensamente — y en ese momento, no pudimos hacer más que rezar y esperar ayuda. Las imágenes de ese día siguen grabadas en nuestras mentes.

Isabel fue llevada primero a Hamilton Medical Center, donde los médicos nos dijeron que "solo un milagro podría salvarla." Luego fue trasladada a Erlanger para recibir atención especializada. Gracias a las innumerables oraciones y al increíble trabajo de su equipo médico, Isabel ahora se encuentra estable, pero su recuperación será larga y difícil. Sufrió una hemorragia cerebral y más de una docena de fracturas en el cráneo y la cara. Ya ha sido sometida a una cirugía para limpiar las heridas en su cerebro y comenzar a reconstruir los huesos fracturados, pero aún le esperan más cirugías y un proceso de rehabilitación extenso.

Isabel es una mujer alegre y de gran corazón — el tipo de persona que te alegra el día. Siempre ha sido como una segunda madre para mí, y su vínculo con mi mamá es inquebrantable. El día del accidente, tenían planes de pasar la tarde juntas, pero la vida cambió en un instante.

Hoy, Isabel permanece en cuidados intensivos. Su esposo está haciendo todo lo posible para estar a su lado y, al mismo tiempo, cuidar de sus hijos. Nuestra familia está profundamente agradecida por todo el amor y apoyo que hemos recibido de amigos, familiares y nuestra comunidad en este momento tan difícil.

Estamos pidiendo su ayuda para aliviar la carga financiera de la larga hospitalización de Isabel, las múltiples cirugías y la rehabilitación que necesitará para recuperarse.
