Friends, family, and the community that Irma touched during her decades in New York, we are reaching out to you with an urgent request to support Irma’s health.
For over 30 years, Irma lived in New York, working tirelessly to support her family. Many of you may know her from her years working as a devoted babysitter in Manhattan.She guided and supported children in her care with the same love she gave her own.
In 2021, Irma made the difficult choice to return to her homeland in Oaxaca, Mexico. Today, she and her husband Javier run a small tortilleria and work the land in their pueblo, finally reuniting with the family they left behind decades ago.
After a lifetime of physical labor, Irma has been diagnosed with two impacted vertebrae and requires urgent spinal surgery to regain her mobility and live without chronic, debilitating pain.
While Irma and Javier have worked hard to build a life in Mexico, the cost of specialized spinal surgery is at this moment beyond their reach.
Our Goal: $10,000
We are seeking to raise $10,000 USD to cover the rest of the $30,000 total that includes:
• The surgical procedure for her impacted vertebrae.
• Hospitalization and specialized medical equipment.
• Post-operative physical therapy and recovery care.

Amigos, familiares y la comunidad que Irma Hernández conoció en Nueva York, nos acercamos a ustedes con una petición urgente para una mujer que ha dado tanto de sí misma a los demás.
Por más de 30 años, vivió en Nueva York, trabajando incansablemente para sacar adelante a su familia. Muchos de ustedes la conocen por sus años trabajando como una niñera dedicada en Manhattan, donde ayudó a criar a niños con el mismo amor y cuidado que brindó a sus propios hijos.
En 2021, Irma tomó la difícil decisión de regresar a su tierra natal en Oaxaca, México. Hoy, ella y su esposo Javier dirigen una pequeña tortillería y trabajan la tierra en su pueblo, reuniéndose finalmente con la familia que dejaron atrás hace décadas.
Después de una vida de trabajo físico agotador, Irma ha sido diagnosticada con dos vértebras impactadas y requiere una cirugía de columna urgente para recuperar su movilidad y vivir sin un dolor crónico y debilitante.
Aunque Irma y Javier han trabajado duro para construir una vida en México, el costo de una cirugía de columna especializada está fuera de su alcance.
