Help Iris Walk Again: Support Her Surgery

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

This is sweet little Iris. She was found clinging to life after she had been hit by a car in Troy, MO. She was transferred in the back of a pickup truck to St. Peters, MO, where I work, by a customer several hours after being found. When I first saw her, she was huddled in a kennel with dried blood all over her and the kennel. I knew I had to help her immediately. I rushed her to VEG in St. Peters, where she was examined, and I had to make the hard choice of leaving her and never knowing what happened to her or taking ownership and getting tests done on her ASAP for possible injuries.

After falling in love with her sweet, gentle demeanor, I knew I had to help her. She had X-rays, blood tests, a full body examination, and other tests done. A total of $2,000 worth of tests and emergency services was initially performed. The first call I received was to inform me she had a severe fracture to her left hip, causing, at the very least, a dislocation and possible fracture in her right hip as well. The fracture is in an area that is weight-bearing, thus leaving her unable to use her back legs to walk or stand. She also endured a severe laceration to her inner back left leg, leaving the bones exposed, and a more surface-level cut on her inner right back leg. She also sustained trauma to her left eye. The long-term effects on her left eye are unknown at this time, but medication is being applied every 8 hours to assist with healing.

All of this to say she is such a trooper, keeping her calm temper through it all. Iris’ next step is to see an Orthopedic Surgeon for surgery on both hips, so she has a chance to walk again. This surgery was quoted up to $7,000.

Obviously, this is a huge financial burden that was all unknown at the time. Any amounts donated will go straight to Iris’ vet bills and/or additional supplies I have and will spend to get her back to normal.

Any and every donation is severely appreciated, and I know Iris will be a happy girl to be able to walk again. She certainly has the willpower to pull through, just needs some help internally. She is estimated to be around 9 months old, so lots of life she still gets to enjoy!

Thank you so much for your donation. I will keep this page updated with any updates I have for her. We will hear from an Orthopedic Surgeon this Monday, November 17th, to discuss possible options.

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
