Help Irene with Medical Expenses
Donation protected
This is my friend, Irene Wendel.
Irene is 32 years old and was born with multiple physical challenges. She lives with her adoptive mother, Arlene. When Irene was just eight years old, her father, unfortunately, passed away, and her biological mother was absent from her life.
She has had many corrective surgeries since her birth and was even able to walk short distances until she was 25 years old. By that age, her scoliosis worsened, and certain surgeries were no longer an option for her as she was born missing her tailbone.
Since then, these challenges limited her movement ability to transferring herself from her wheelchair into cars or beds and pushing herself around a bit. She was able to do that much, until her leg was amputated on Dec 22.
Two days before Christmas last year, her left leg became infected with osteomyelitis, a severe bone disease, and as a result, had to be amputated 3 inches below her knee. Irene faced this horrifying ordeal with the same impressive spirit she maintained when faced with many other difficulties in her life.
After that, along with post-surgery pains and some complications, she came down with Covid.
Irene is currently located at Long Island Jewish Hospital in New Hyde Park, battling ongoing issues with her leg and Covid. She has had surgery to clean out her wound and may require even more cleanings soon. Irene and Arlene are in need of financial help as many of the things she needs are not covered by her medical insurance.
The goal amount I set here is arbitrary because GoFundMe requires one- any amounts you or anyone you know could donate to this struggling family would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you.
