My name is Irene, and for years I was the manager of the Gleaners food bank, dedicating my time and heart to helping others in need. A few weeks ago, my life changed dramatically when I learned that I only have sight in one eye and only partial sight in the other. This news has been devastating, not only because it means I can no longer carry out my duties at the food bank, but also because it has made daily life so much harder.
Since losing most of my eyesight, I have struggled to keep up with the needs of my home, both inside and out. My house is falling apart, and I simply don't have the resources to make the repairs or maintain it the way I used to. While I do receive SSI, it barely covers my basic needs, and I am finding it harder and harder to get by. Asking for help is not easy for me, especially after spending so many years giving to others, but I am running out of options.
If you are able to help—whether through a donation or by offering in-kind support to help me get my home back in order—I would be deeply grateful. Your kindness and generosity would mean the world to me as I navigate this difficult chapter. Thank you for considering supporting me in my time of need.
