At just 20 years old, my friend Irene’s life was shattered in an instant.

A brutal attack by thieves left her with a spinal cord injury — and a future she never imagined: confined to a wheelchair, facing daily battles just to survive. But Irene is not just a survivor —

she’s a fighter. She put herself through college, determined to rise above her circumstances. Yet, despite her resilence, her mother who was her primary caregiver—went missing and never came back. Irene has been searching for her mother and has lost hope of finding her again. Since then, she have been on her own, navigating life as a wheelchair user without the support she once relied on. 2025 , at 39 years old, Irene's gave birth to a beautiful baby in South Africa but her body struggles to recover and has lost her job. Every day brings new challenges, from basic needs to medical costs, transportation, and accessibility barriers.

Every day, the burden grows heavier and Irene is plunging into depression day by day. Her mental health has been affected.
