Short Introduction.

Hello, I’m Ionut. After a lifelong battle with Hepatitis B/D and serious complications following my first liver transplant in January 2024, I needed a second transplant in October 2025. I’m asking for help with housing, nutrition, travel to the hospital, and recovery essentials so I can heal safely and return to work.

Why I’m fundraising—highlights

1989–1990: As a baby I contracted Hepatitis B during a hospital stay.

2004–2005: Diagnosed with Hepatitis B + D and advanced liver fibrosis (possibly that is when testing for Hep D became available).

2005–2013: Progressive cirrhosis from the double infection.

2015: I was told I might have only 3–6 years to live; I moved to the UK, started work, and entered NHS care in Oct 2015, which changed my outlook.

Jan 2024: First transplant. Despite excellent care, I developed ischaemic biliary strictures, infections, and severe symptoms → multiple hospitalisations and procedures.

Jan–Sep 2024: Several ERCPs (stents placed and removed); one episode complicated by pancreatitis. Two liver biopsies to exclude rejection, one complicated by infection.

Sep 2024: Re-listed for transplant.

Apr–Aug 2025: Temporarily paused (stable).

Aug–Oct 2025: Health declined quickly (bilirubin rose, malnutrition and intense itch cut sleep). I was reactivated and internally prioritised at Royal Free Hospital, with weekly transplant clinics.

28 Oct 2025: Second liver transplant. I’m profoundly grateful to the donor family and the NHS team at the Royal Free Hospital in London.

What your support covers (Hopefully between 3 and 6 months, recovery period)

  • Housing & utilities during recovery.
  • Dietitian-guided, high-protein, reduced-fat nutrition (to rebuild after malnutrition and support the new liver).
  • Travel/parking for frequent clinics (for the first 3 months mainly taxis/private cars to avoid crowded areas while immunosuppressed, on high doses and on strong medications).
  • Wound-care/over-the-counter items and small home equipment.
  • Family travel from Romania: for caregiving at home and assisting with travels to the medical appointments.
  • Optional: Basic physio/mental health buffer (hopefully we won't need it).

Milestones:

  • £4,500 = 3 to 6 months housing + first clinic travel.
  • £6,000 = adds nutrition, dressings, and any other over-the-counter supplies.
  • £8,500+ = 6+ months with physio and psychological buffer.

My promise

  • Monthly updates (photos and clinic milestones).
  • Simple accounting of how funds are used.

About me

I’ve never smoked or used drugs and stopped alcohol years ago (2012). I’m disciplined with my medications and diet, and I’m eager to return to work and the gym. My managers at Costco are kindly supporting this campaign internally—thank you to them and to all colleagues and members who choose to help.
