Help my sister Ioanna to fight cancer.

Hello, my name is Apostolia and I have created this page to help my younger sister Ioanna who has been fighting colon cancer for the last 4 years.

Ioanna is forty four years old and lives in Nea Makri (Athens), she has been working as an art therapist for children for the last fifteen years.

In 2019 she was admitted to the 251 Air Force General Hospital of Athens because of severe pains. She was diagnosed with colon cancer and had to have immediate surgery.

The surgeon removed part of the colon and part of the liver as he found tumours in both places. This was ensued by a scheme of six months of chemotherapy.

Unfortunately, in 2021 metastases were found on the right ovary, it was again removed and was followed by another six months of chemotherapy.

After three months the cancer had spread to the left ovary and she had to receive a third scheme of six months therapy. That scheme was not effective and they had to change her treatment. Another three months passed and they realised that the new treatment was not working...Sadly, her oncologist said that there was nothing else they could do to help her other than putting her on a waiting list for experimental medicine.

The tumour got so big that she became extremely swollen and in constant pain, this resulted in an incapacity to work and unfortunately there isn't much help she can get from the state.

As a last resort, she decided to consult with a different oncologist who said that maybe there was something else they could try, a form of radiotherapy (photon therapy) combined with i.v. vitamins. A treatment that is only available privately.

With the help of friends and family she managed to gather the money and followed that new protocol for a month.

So far it seems it had a positive effect on the tumour and on the pain and the doctors are quite happy with the results she is getting.

Unfortunately the weekly cost of the vitamins injections is €240.00/week and the radiotherapy is €2800/month, in addition to the daily medicine she needs to take at €240.00/months, this comes to a total of €4000.00/month

She is in a position now where she can not find the fund necessary to carry on the treatment.

I'm creating this page in the hope that we will be able to gather enough funds for all those treatments and for her to be able to carry on for the coming year. We will be forever grateful to you all for anything you could spare to help Ioanna get better.
