Hello, my name is Adesina Tony Dada. I’m an international student from Nigeria and an alumni of the University of South Alabama. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 2019, I’m currently enrolled in the master’s program here at South. Due to the effects of covid-19 I have lost funding to finish my program. IF I’M UNABLE TO PAY MY TUITION OR COVER 30% by AUGUST 21, MY STUDENT VISA WILL EXPIRE AND I COULD BE FORCEFULLY REMOVED FROM THE COUNTRY .
I would be sent back to Nigeria where it is unsafe and life threatening, even worse I’d be sent back to a country I no longer call home because I have no family there. I desperately want to stay in this country because there is hope here for me. America is the land of opportunity, ever since I came here at the age of 16 to attend college, I’ve only been more inspired to give back to this great country that provided an opportunity for a young student to succeed in the engineering world.
Thank you for your time.*
Hello, all! For a little backstory about my situation, I came to Mobile, Alabama at the age of sixteen (16) to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Alabama. It has been a costly expenditure that has, at times, required me to take loans. When I graduated in May of 2019, I was accepted into the Master’s program and I was given Graduate Assistant-ship for the 2019/2020 academic year. Its renewal was dependent on me meeting the stipulated requirements. I am currently in good standing and have met all requirements, but unfortunately I was informed by my College that there were no funds available to offer me Graduate Assistant-ship renewal. I received this notice two weeks before the new academic year was to start. This situation has been a massive burden on me as I already gave up my living stipend, I would usually receive from the school, for the spring semester in order to cover parts of my remaining balance from my Undergraduate degree. I am appealing to everyone with the means to give as I know these times are hard, not just on me. Also, the reason I am asking for money as opposed to working is because international student policy restricts me from working outside the college. No donation is too small and I greatly appreciate all who have taken the time to read and share!
