Happy December! ❄️
I hope this finds everyone well. So many of you may already know me from the days I taught your children dance or whether you were a guest on my podcast or perhaps a listener, so you know that I just love dance! It has been my world for more than 30 years . I began, as so many do, as a professional dancer performing in NYC and NJ until my career landed me for 23 years as artistic director and owner of my own dance studio in Westfield, NJ, nurturing young dancers and spreading the love of dance. I was recently back in that area and heard from parents who I ran into all the exciting updates on their now grown children, with lives of their own and their stories about the time spent at the studio and how it helped shape the career decisions they made and the fields they went into.
Ah, dance love….it stays with you!
I always believed that dance changes lives and has an impact that is far reaching beyond the classroom. Its impact is transformative for student, teacher, audience and community alike. Those recent conversations reaffirmed that belief.
Even after hanging up my studio director shoes in December 2021, I wasn’t leaving the dance community, just pivoting into a new direction. That pivot took me to host fun, weekly IGLIVE chats with dance professionals in their chosen fields, held right on my Instagram page. These dancers and companies from all over the world were returning to LIVE Performance after the Pandemic shutdown and I wanted to catch that excitement, cheer them on and share it! So we chatted about it !
These weekly chats became so popular that “Dance Talk” ® with Joanne Carey was born, becoming an official podcast in the Spring of 2023.
“Dance Talk” ® with Joanne Carey is currently listened to in 60 countries and for 2024 was in the Top 20% of video podcasts on Spotify. I never imagined that these fun conversations would turn into a much sought after podcast for and by the dance community, along with new dance friends and colleagues I have met. Dance Talk continues to grow with Season 4 hitting the podcast airways this past Fall and is available wherever you get your podcasts: Spotify, Apple Podcasts , iHeart Radio, you name it!
