Help Mahmoud & his family of 16 survive in Gaza

Message from Mahmoud:

’These are my sister's children who are displaced with us because their house was bombed, and God saved them from the bombing, and I am the one who feeds them. Life has become very expensive, and everything here has become very expensive. We are dying of hunger every day.
Due to lack of food and malnutrition, we have been forced to eat bread that contains worms due to the lack of an alternative or anything else to satisfy our hunger’.

Thank you so much to the people who have shared and donated to this fundraiser. The situation on the ground is as dire as ever and with Mahmoud’s brother in law being martyred a few months ago, he is now responsible for his sister and her children as well as his other immediate family. With winter here, it’s become increasingly difficult with cold, inadequate clothing as well as the struggle to get access to food and clean water.

We want to be clear that all the money being raised right now is being used for basic day to day survival. It costs hundreds of pounds/dollars a week just to survive in Gaza right now, with the extortionate price of food, clean water and medicine, it’s incredibly important to raise as many funds as possible. The Rafah borders aren’t open yet, so as much as we hope to raise enough money so that Mahmoud and his family can evacuate when they do eventually open, right now they are living day to day and barely have enough to survive next week.

Mahmoud’s Story

Hi everyone, my name is Mahmoud Mohammad, I am a 24-year-old Palestinian living in Gaza during this genocide. One day I went to find some food for my family, and an Isra*li bomb went off nearby. Shrapnel from the bomb got in my leg. These are sharp, dangerous pieces of metal blown through the air when a bomb explodes.

I was in so much agony, I remember being taken to the hospital in an ambulance and the Isra*li Occupation Forces had surrounded the hospital by a 5m radius. There were 3 doctors in the entire hospital and I was waiting for several hours in pain before being seen. By the time it was my turn, they did an operation but couldn't remove all the shrapnel as they didn't want to risk damaging my leg and my ability to walk again. My leg barely got away from being amputated. The minimum medical help I could get happened with no supplies and no anesthesia. Now I can hardly walk on my leg and urgently need another surgery.

Eight months before the genocide started, my father died and since then I had to leave my studies and work to provide for my mother and 6 younger brothers and sisters. I was a taxi driver and the Isra*li Occupation Forces destroyed my taxi as well as my home. Our lives have been destroyed because of this genocide.

The money we are trying to raise would go towards another operation for my leg as the first one failed. I am still in a lot of pain and cannot walk properly. It would go towards necessary means for survival like food and water for my vulnerable family who I am solely responsible for. My mother is 64 years old, she has had a stroke and she also fell and broke her leg. She desperately needs access to healthcare too. The rest of the money would go towards evacuating my family and I out of these dire living conditions in Gaza to find safety, protection, and just a chance at survival.

Please help our family. You are our only hope of safety and survival. Thank you for taking the time to read my story, may God bless you all.
