On a pretty uneventful Sunday night, my husband and I noticed a stray black cat sleeping on our porch. The next morning, I went out to look for where it staying during the day. While checking around the neighborhood, I stopped at my front neighbor’s yard where there’s a low-hanging lemon tree surrounded by bushes. I crouched down to look underneath and saw a large white paw sticking out from the shadows. When I looked closer, I realized it wasn’t the cat at all, it was a small Husky hiding under the bushes, panting heavily.

She wouldn’t come out for food, water, or when I called to her, so I carefully climbed into the bushes myself to help her out. Once I managed to get a leash on her and she came willingly. I immediately realized something was very wrong. She wasn’t using one of her back legs at all, it hung limp and floppy beside her.

She is a small-to-medium orange and white husky with the most striking pale blue eyes. Despite how beautiful she is, she was filthy, exhausted, and her ears were torn up. She had a collar on, but no tags.

We knew she needed medical care immediately.

My husband and I rushed her to the vet, where after hours of waiting, the diagnosis was heartbreaking: she has a comminuted tibial fracture, meaning the bone in her leg is badly shattered and requires surgery to repair. Once the surgery is completed she will require a minimum of ten weeks of rehabilitation and rest.

We have posted her on lost pet apps, websites, and local groups hoping desperately to find her owner, but with no tags and no microchip, we’re not confident anyone is looking for her.

We didn’t have this in our cards, an injured dog made it’s way to our home, hiding alone under a bush and we couldn’t stand by and do nothing.

As pet parents to two dogs and a cat already, we are not in a position to permanently keep another pet. However, we could not leave her suffering. We are committed to fostering and caring for her until she either finds her family or heals enough to be safely adopted into a loving home. But, the financial burden is overwhelming.

Her initial emergency exam and care have already cost several hundred dollars, and her surgery is estimated to be significant, not including the follow-up appointments, rehabilitation, and additional veterinary aftercare she will need during her recovery.

Any donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward her medical care and recovery. If you are unable to donate monetarily, sharing this fundraiser or sending supplies like food, towels, and blankets could make all the difference.

Thank you for helping this sweet girl have a chance to walk, run, and live pain-free again.
