My name is Mitch, and I am writing this on behalf of my close friend and one of the most inspirational people I've ever met, Isaiah Brooks.
HELP ISAIAH KEEP FIGHTING!
Isaiah Brooks is an Amazon warehouse worker and key leader of the movement to unionize Amazon. Recently, he was injured at work and has only received pennies from workers compensation. He is the sole provider for his wife and six children and needs funds urgently while he waits for his workers compensation case to process.
BUILDING A MOVEMENT
Four years ago, Isaiah Brooks helped build the Amazon Labor Union from the ground up. Uniting with a group of his coworkers on Staten Island, he spent countless hours speaking with people at the bus stop, in the warehouse, and on the ferry to unite the very people Jeff Bezos exploits every day. After many months of fighting, Isaiah and the ALU won the first federally recognized union of Amazon Workers in the country. But that wasn't the end of the story...
THE MARATHON
Isaiah recognized the fight to win a contract with Amazon was a long one, and so after winning the union began working with his coworkers at the LDJ5 warehouse to create a sustainable, long term movement to win changes. Together, they fought for changes like turning the fans on during the summer, recognizing Juneteenth as a holiday, and permanent jobs for seasonal employees. As the movement grew, he took on a leading role, speaking to workers across the country about how to build a union and stand up for their rights including at the Patois Film Festival, LaborNotes, and events with hundreds of workers.
AMAZON'S REVOLVING DOOR OF INJURY
After four years of building the movement, Isaiah hit the same wall hundreds of thousands of Amazon workers face every year: potentially permanent injury caused by the intense, inhumane way Amazon workers are treated. Since being injured, he has had intense pain to the point that he has been unable to work, move around, and sometimes even sleep. Amazon has showed little to no care, giving the bare minimum in workers compensation and failing to provide adequate assistance.
KEEP THIS LIGHT SHINING!
In the darkness of the current world, there are very few places to find hope. Isaiah has been a guiding light in that darkness for so many people, including for me. When I feel down about if we can fight the rising tide of hate in this country, I call Isaiah. When there is a tough fight to be had to protect communities in peril, Isaiah is there on the front lines. When other workers have been injured or are going through a tough time, Isaiah shows up at their doors with love and support.
Please, help me help out my friend, and make sure Isaiah is able to keep shining his beautiful, awesome, brilliant light in the Amazon movement and beyond. Let's have his back, because there is no doubt in my mind he would have yours.
