My name is Frauke “Kay” Hitschler and I was living 6 months on Gili Air and worked as a diving instructor for DiveZone last year.
I feel heartbroken about what happened to my working colleagues and friends Ijank Algaifari, Zul and Asmawi.
Everyone knows about the earthquake that happened on Lombok, Indonesia just a few days ago. Thousands of citizens lost their homes and some even their lives...
Some of you remember maybe my instagram post a few days before I left my temporary home „Gili Air“ https://instagram.com/p/BbN5H5RHtBV/ last year!
I was soooo happy about my time in Indonesia and what an amazing experience I had, especially because of incredible kind people like my friends Asmawi, Ijank and Zul!
On one of my last days, the three invited me and my student Karen Eng first for dinner, then to their home where we also stayed for the night and introduced us to all their families, friends and neighbors. We saw with how much love but especially with how much hard work they built their own houses by hand every day after their usual work. And always keep in mind that they are earning very little.
And NOW THEY LOST EVERYTHING!
Since the last few days I tried to contact my friends via social media but never received any feedback.
Last night, finally, I got a message from my working colleague Gladys, who desperately tried to get hold of everyone we worked with as well. She told me that Zul, Asmawi and Ijang are safe and are staying on a hill with their families for the last couple days as there house is complete damaged and unsafe. They only thing they need is clean water and food!
But I know that there is soooooo much more they need!
I try to set up a gofundme-account to raise money for them! I will fly in November to Lombok and will give them our donations so they can buy material to rebuild their houses, food for their families, blankets and everything else they might need.
They are the kindest people I know. I think it’s now the time to give something back and help them and their young family! They deserve it as the bucket is overflowing with good karma.
I am asking everyone who knows my dear friends, everyone who travelled and met somewhere incredible kind and helpful locals who were greeting you every day with their beautiful smile and are willing to share everything they have (and that’s usually very little), everyone who has a bit spare money. Even if everyone is just giving a few euros/dollars, it will make a big difference to them. More importantly, it will let them know that they are not forgotten!! Let’s help them rebuild their home and spread some love ❤️❤️❤️
