Help Indigo Walk Again: A Surgery to Get Her Back On 4 Legs

This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write, but I’m reaching out because I need help. My beautiful rescue pup, Indigo, has been through so much this past year, and now she’s facing another challenge: a surgery to repair her knee so she can walk and live pain-free again.

Indigo’s health journey began in March 2024 when she was diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). She bravely faced months of recovery, including bed rest, physiotherapy, and countless treatments to regain her strength.

Just as we started to see progress, another setback arrived. In July, she lost the use of her right hind leg due to a hip issue caused by her weak back. We spent months exploring every avenue to help her heal, including countless vet visits and tests, physiotherapy, water therapy, acupuncture, red light therapy, magnetic therapy, medication, and even reiki. Slowly but surely, she started to use her leg again. We were thrilled with her progress.

Unfortunately, the strain of her newfound movement proved too much for her knee, leading to a rupture in her cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) - similar to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in humans. Now, she needs a Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO), a specialized knee surgery that will give her the ability to walk and play without pain again.

Indigo is my best friend, my little fighter, and one of the strongest spirits I’ve ever known. She has brought so much joy, love, and light into my life, and I am determined to do everything I can to help her. Her surgery is scheduled for February 3rd, and the cost of the surgery, including rehabilitation and medication is estimated at $8,500.

Caring for Indigo has been a labour of love. Over the past year, I’ve already spent more than $10,000 on her recovery. This journey has been overwhelming at times, but the love and determination to see Indigo thrive again has kept me fighting for her. While asking for help has never been easy for me, this time, I truly can’t do it alone. I need help to give her the chance to recover and live the life she deserves.
