Help Indigo take on cancer

Update
Since this gofundme was originally created in September, there have been many developments.  Indigo endured more conventional treatments while Leilani & Paul researched all possibilities for her care and long term healing.  It was clear this was going to take a whole body approach with many practitioners all bringing their specialties to the table.  Assembling this team took months and lots of trial and error.  They are now feeling more confident in their path forward, which has most recently included finding a practitioner in Ft. Myers FL with all the alternative therapies in one place that can treat Indigo in a very intensive six week period.  With three days notice, the family set up for Florida to start treatments.  These treatments are non toxic and are what is needed to strike the balance between controlling the cancer and building Indigo's body back up.  Of course, all of this is out of pocket plus the cost of a rental house for six weeks, car, flights, food and supplies needed for her care.  They are settling in nicely in FL and taking this as an opportunity for whole family healing, but the costs are racking up!  The family is hoping to raise $75,000 to cover the many costs that they have already put out, plus the costs of the six week treatment plan, and items that will be needed when they return to continue on this healing journey.  Healing from cancer in the long term is expensive!  It requires dramatic and sometimes costly lifestyle changes involving many out of pocket practitioners, nutrition, therapies, tests, changes to their home and other supplies.

Indigo continues to want to keep her privacy, which includes her request that the gofundme is NOT circulated on any social media platforms.  Because once it does, it spreads like wildfire and makes its way into parts of her life that she would like to keep “cancer free”.

The family is so appreciative of everyone that has donated to them over the past three years and supported them in so many ways. They did everything they could to refrain from having to do another gofundme, but unfortunately the costs are just too great to absorb anymore.

Thank you!!

Original Post

Hello -
If you are reading this you are one of a selected few valued family, friends and members of our community who we have reached out to as we begin the next phase in Indigo's cancer journey.

When Indigo was first diagnosed in the Spring of 2021, we had hoped that an aggressive surgery and treatment plan would make her Ewing's Sarcoma battle simply a blip in the story on her future Wikipedia page, but unfortunately that is not the case. Indigo had her first reoccurrence in her lungs last Winter. Despite surgery, and extensive radiation, Indigo managed to largely stay in school and Leilani and Paul worked through most of the process. This second recurrance not only presents new medical challenges, but also changes the reality of her fight with Ewing's.

Ewing's has once again attacked her lungs, but it has also presented an inoperable tumor on her back near her spine. Most importantly Indigo is now officially facing a battle with recurring Ewing's. Leilani, Paul and Indigo now must find new ways to support her health and look for expanded treatment options to fight this tumor and future recurrences.

If you know Leilani you know that she is taking on this new reality and this new battle with dedication, research and hope. The course of treatment that has currently been put into motion by UCSF is another surgery, additional radiation, and the continuous intake of cancer blockers. In addition to this expansive and exhausting treatment Indigo is concurrently working with a variety of integrated medical specialists, and dietitians to help her body more quickly recover from treatment and be in the best shape for her continued battle with Ewing's.

Setting up all of these treatments, which span from $6500 in non insurance covered blood work, to weekly iv's and a variety of medications outside of her insurance plan, and an entirely new diet will be both a huge financial commitment but also a huge time commitment for the family.

Leilani will once again be stepping back from work to take an active role in looking for new treatments and best practices for Indigo. She will also be ensuring that Indigo is healthy enough to attend 8th grade and be in a musical, and to enjoy her life as a regular teenager and not only a cancer patient. This is the reason that we are keeping both her diagnosis and financial requests so close to her immediate circle at this time and completely off social media. The massive social media presence and outpouring of support during her last treatment cycle was overwhelmingly positive, but still overwhelming. Indigo really wants to keep this next phase of treatment more private so she can have a sense of normalcy when she is out and about around town.

Please help us give Indigo the tools and the time to take on Ewings.

Much Love,
Team Indigo
