We’re raising money for our lil family to buy a reliable second hand car. We’re a Koori and Quechua family made up of Spike (4 y/o), me (Lucy, Spike’s aunty and co-parent) and Jessie (Spike’s mum).
Last month our little family’s car broke down - the engine had blown. A mechanic has had a look at it and said that a new engine would cost the same amount as the car is worth (around $6-7k) and may not be worth it.
We don’t have the capacity to fund that at the moment, and saving up for a car isn’t going to be feasible as we urgently need to attend hospital appointments in January.
Spike has a rare genetic disorder & epilepsy which requires consistent monitoring at Queensland Children’s Hospital - which is a 200km drive away, nearly a 3 hour drive. Spike is meant to have yearly scans on their organs but due to covid they have been delayed. Our first set of scans & appointments since covid are in January, but we have no way of getting up there.
Spike also has autism and we need the car to get them around town and surrounds so we can access NDIS services. The public transport where we live is irregular and doesn’t go to all the places we need to get to.
Jessie has taken on a lot of concession rate clients in her trauma therapy practice over the last two months and has also found that the last lockdown has impacted her client intake, before the last couple of lockdowns she was booked out a few months in advance however the lockdowns have put financial pressure on those in the marginalised communities she works in.
At the moment we’ve been walking everywhere but it’s just not feasible to keep living like this.
We are hoping to raise $7k so we can get a reliable second hand car (and pay for registration) that will last us a while.
We know that it’s a difficult time to be asking for donations and are so appreciative for any donations that anyone is able to give to our family.
