Hi, my name is Rick, and I am fundraising on behalf of my brother John. My brother is facing a terrible hardship and really needs a helping hand. An unimaginable chain of events including the pandemic, job loss, and heart attack have wreaked havoc on his finances and health and has caused him unbearable stress. John, my sisters and I will be forever grateful for any donations.

JOHN’S STORY

My name is John. I’m an American missionary who has lived in Japan for over 30 years. I’m in the unfortunate and humbling position of asking for help. Over the last 3 years several life changing events have taken a devastating toll on my finances, and my physical and mental health.

In March 2020, I had a part time job at an English school with an opportunity to eventually go full time and was also working as a wedding pastor. Once the pandemic hit, the full time opportunity never materialized, and weddings were virtually non-existent. I had many months of little or almost no income and was forced to deplete my savings and use my charge cards to survive.

I was able to finally get a full time teaching job in 2022 and with my part time English job and the weddings, I was managing to reduce my debt.

Then, in March of this year, I had a heart attack! Unfortunately, I was misdiagnosed and after spending 6 days in the hospital and undergoing an endoscopy, I was sent home with stomach medication. Later, I was sent to a cardiologist by my primary physician. This resulted in 2 more hospitalizations and the placement of 2 stents in my coronary arteries.

With my sick time from work exhausted, once again my income took a hit and I had to use my credit cards to cover all the medical bills.

I’m recovering but financially things are tough. I now have about $15,000 in credit card debt. My goal is to reduce/eliminate this debt burden which is the main source of my financial hardship and emotional distress.
