Vanessa fought long and hard with her Stage 4 cancer. But the cancer got the best of her yesterday 10/21/2021 @ 5:01 pm and now she is in peace with no more pain and suffering. Quick story of how Vanessa was. At first with her diagnosis of cancer her first appointment with her oncologist he looked at her and said to us that she wasn't going to live long *a year* he said. Both shocked on how blunt he was and kind of upset how he just casually said it. This is an example how strong-willed she was. She said when we left the office " Dumbass doctor (lol) I'm going to show him, he is not GOD...we got this SMaLLz". You know what she definitely showed him . Her 1 year of being diagnosed we had another appointment with her oncologist and said to him "Doctor this is my 1 year and I'm still here, what do you say now" lol At that time she was very much strong. That was in May 2021. She fought for a year and a half. Vanessa is so strong she passed and did it her way. She decided hospice on her own Wednesday and decided for herself to be under hospice. She knew her parents, family and I wouldn't have the courage to do it. Despite us talking her out of it and being selfish and she said to me 10/21/2021 @ 12:30 a.m she called me and said " Mhama, I'm calling just to say good night and I love you, you are my rock" she tell me this EVERY NIGHT. She also said she is tired, just really tired now. She knew it ..it was time. Vanessa made it clear on how she never wanted to pass in the hospital and we made it happen. Took a village to get her home but I'm so heavy hearted and also happy to say she passed 10/21/2021 @ 5:01 pm AT HOME... just less than an hour of her being home. She just arrived via ambulance at home from ICU. She waited to be home and be surrounded by love from her parents, family and I and everyone who loved her. She did it her way. She got what she wanted. You did it Vanessa! We are all so heavy hearted and I'm so lost without you but I find comfort you are at Peace and I know you are also surrounded by love with our family that we lost throughout the years. Especially my mom...give her a Big Hug and kiss from me, my sister, and all of us. As this said I want to ask for help to ease just the financial burden on her parents. It's very difficult, especially Vanessa being the only child. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I know Vanessa has touched so many lives and was very well loved by many. She is a beautiful soul. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts ~CORTEZ FAMILY
